The Texas Academy of Palliative Medicine (TAPM) is a professional
organization of Texas physicians who have a special interest in
palliative medicine. Interested non-physicians may participate as
Associate members. Palliative care seeks to prevent, relieve, reduce,
or soothe the symptoms of disease or disorder without effecting a cure
[Institute of Medicine 1998]. Classically, palliative care has been
provided by hospices for patience with terminal conditions. However,
palliative concepts are increasingly applied to other settings besides
hospice.
