Houston Sept 9, 2004 Having the Conversation: Specific training for persons in long term care facilities.
El Paso Sept 24-25, 2004 New Understanding of Grief Seminar with national expert and speaker, Ken Doka, PhD; over 160 people participated.
San Marcos September, 2004 Presentation on Advance Care Planning for consortium of nursing homes, hospitals and hospices.
Grand Rapids, MI September, 2004 Presentation to Michigan coalition regarding end-of-life programs and how to find funding.
Houston September-October, 2004 Public Librarian Education: This model program developed education for public librarians on assisting library patrons in locating information on terminal diagnoses and end-of-life information. After being presented at three locations in Houston, the program will be packaged for use by others in replicating the training for other partnerships with their local libraries.
Waco October, 2004 Town Hall Meeting: The first of its kind for TxPEC, we are gathering local community members together to discuss end-of-life care issues.
Denton October, 2004 Presentations to community groups wanting to form new TxPEC partnerships
Statewide October, 2004 Partnership with Texas New Mexico Hospice Organization and Texas Academy of Palliative Medicine to provide training in  Austin for Hospice Medical Director's around the State.
Fort Worth October, 2004 "Let Someone Know" - a campaign that has a city-wide proclamation declaring that October 24-30, 2004 is "Let Someone Know-Advance Care Planning Week". To date at least 28 events for professionals and the general community are scheduled with 16 events open to the public. We anticipate moving this model into a statewide campaign in future years similar to the "Great American Smokeout".

Temple April 6, 2005 Advance Care Planning Seminar in Temple at the Senior Fellowship Center, 2220 West Avenue D, will be presented to nurses, social workers, long-term care administrators and others interested in learning how to talk with people about their wishes for health care at the ends of their lives.  This conference is a joint presentation by Educational Institute on Aging, Central Texas Partnership for End-of-Life Care and TxPEC.  Contact the TxPEC office at 512.453.9600, or go to our registration area of this site (NOTE: see credit cards on right).
Denton April 20, 2005 The 2005 Hospice Foundation of America’s annual teleconference focuses on ethical issues.  In collaboration with The Hastings Center, HFA will assemble a panel of noted ethicists, educators, gerontologists, and hospice experts who will examine timely and important issues regarding the social perspectives of medical ethics and how various health care settings may influence ethical decisions in hospitals, nursing homes and hospices. The panel will also examine how cultural differences may influence ethical choices.  The broadcast is intended for anyone involved in caregiving or dealing with end-of-life issues, this program will offer constructive advice to those who are facing the difficult circumstances that surround caring for someone who is dying. The exact location for this is not set at this time.

Austin April 28-29, 2005 Respecting Choices Facilitators Training, Austin, TX.  Targeted for professionals in Travis and Williamson Counties.  Persons participating in this training will be certified as Advance Care Planning Facilitators in this particular paradigm for helping members of the general population make future healthcare choices.  It does not begin with completing advance directives.  The completion of these documents is the last step in a process that fosters communication with families about choices and strategic help in selecting the Healthcare Power of Attorney.
